Sunday Short: A Closer Look Plus Size in the Media

I was recently organizing a collection of plus-sized fashion images on my Pinterest page. Even after trying various search terms like “plus size outfits”, “plus size fashion”, and “plus size baddie outfits”, I still came across images like these:

The definition of “plus size” differs depending on the sector. In general, American consumers view sizes 14 and above as “plus size”, whereas the fashion industry categorizes it as anything larger than a size 6. 😳

The women in the pictures above may be considered plus-sized in the world of fashion models. However, it’s likely that those searching with these keywords are seeking pictures similar to these:

There is an opportunity for promoted pins as well.

The majority of promoted pins did not showcase the typical idea of “plus size”. This raises the concern – would you appreciate seeing an advertisement for a chocolate cake when searching for “foods for weight loss”? I highly doubt it. There is definitely room for improvement in this aspect.
