My Review

Characters: 8/10

The characters are one of the book’s greatest strengths. Cate Kay is a richly developed protagonist whose complexity and internal conflicts give the story much of its emotional weight. She feels like a real person with believable struggles. The supporting characters also contribute meaningful depth to the narrative, though a few side characters could have been expanded upon to enhance their impact.

Atmosphere: 7/10

The scenes throughout the book didn’t always feel as clear or vivid as in some other novels I’ve read. Although the portrayals of Cass’s hometown and Ryan’s home in Los Feliz stand out as particularly strong and immersive. This likely stems from the characters’ deep emotional ties to these locations, which brings an added layer of warmth and authenticity to the descriptions.

Writing: 5/10

The writing is straightforward and clear, but occasionally lacks style or emotional punch. The prose conveys the story adequately, but it doesn’t always engage the reader’s senses or imagination fully. The narrative voice is competent but doesn’t possess a distinct or memorable quality that would elevate the reading experience.

Plot: 5/10

The plot has an interesting premise but suffers from uneven pacing and underdeveloped threads. Certain elements feel engaging and well thought out, yet others lack clarity or resolution. The story sometimes drifts, with moments that don’t add much to character or thematic development.

Intrigue: 5/10

The pacing felt uneven, which made it difficult to stay fully engaged. I found myself wishing for greater clarity in the plot and deeper emotional resonance with the characters. Ultimately, the narrative lacked a strong sense of purpose or direction, leaving me feeling somewhat unsatisfied and disconnected from the story’s core themes.

Logic: 7/10

The overall plot of The Three Lives of Cate Kay becomes muddled due to a lack of direction in the story. As a result, the logic and cohesion of the plot suffer, leaving the reader struggling to grasp the story’s core purpose.

Enjoyment- 6/10

I found myself genuinely enjoying the story in the beginning, drawn in by the characters and the initial premise. However, as the book progressed, I struggled to maintain the same level of interest and had difficulty finishing it. The momentum slowed, and the narrative didn’t hold my attention as strongly toward the end, which affected my overall enjoyment.

Final Thoughts:
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend The Three Lives of Cate Kay. While I recognize that other readers might have a different experience or connect with it on another level, for me, the story lost momentum quite early and struggled to regain its initial spark. Though it had potential, it just didn’t quite come together in a way that held my interest or delivered a memorable experience.
