A friend of ours is having an 80’s themed birthday party close to Halloween. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I am absolutely crazy about Halloween! I had a bunch of ideas, but truth be told, I prefer not to spend much. That’s why I opted to come up with some easy ideas using items you might already have or can easily buy.

A Couple Ideas for Couples:
Who doesn’t love The Breakfast Club? It’s become a timeless teen movie from the 80’s showcasing five students from different cliques spending a Saturday in detention. Andrew Clark was played by Emilio Estevez (the jock), and Claire Standish was played by Molly Ringwald (the princess).
Married…With Children became synonymous with classic, dysfunctional families in suburbia. Al, played by Ed O’Neill, was a sullen shoe salesman, while Peg, the lazy housewife, was played by Katey Sagal. Anyone who has seen this show is sure to remember the sarcastic humor, Al’s hand snuggly in his pant band, and Peg strutting around with wild, red hair, loud clothing, and a cigarette.
Ideas for Women:
The Ghostbusters franchise is still hitting movie theatres to this day, but this costume is from the original, released in 1984. Sigourney Weaver portrays Dana Barrett, a skilled cellist in New York City, who gets involved with the Ghostbusters due to strange events happening in her apartment. Her character becomes more complicated after becoming possessed by Zuul, a demonic entity. This possession results in iconic scenes, such as her transformation into the “Gatekeeper” for Gozer.
The colorful animated show, Rainbow Brite, was broadcasted from 1984 to 1986. Rainbow Brite is illustrated as a young girl who adds brightness to the world alongside her allies, the Color Kids, and her horse, Starlite. Each Color Kid symbolizes distinct individual personality traits and skills. As a team, they defend the world’s colors from the malevolent Shadowkeeper, who endeavors to take them away. I have listed the specific items I bought for the party below. I am confident that my selection will set me apart from the other attendees! *I will be making my own rainbow belt buckle as I was unable to find a reasonably priced one.
Ideas for Men:
In the world of professional wrestling during the 1980s, it is difficult to think of a more prominent figure than Hulk Hogan. As the leading attraction in WWE during that era, Hogan played a key role in elevating the popularity of pro wrestling worldwide. He was the main event in several Wrestle Manias, held the WWE Championship, and even had his own animated series on Saturday mornings.
Say Anything… is a 1989 romantic comedy-drama with John Cusack as Lloyd Dobler, an aspiring kickboxer in love with Ione Skye’s character, high-achieving student Diane Court. The boombox scene with Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” is iconic for symbolizing romantic devotion. The film is acclaimed for portraying teenage relationships realistically, having witty dialogue, and a memorable soundtrack. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out.
What do you think about my costume ideas? I love an 80s theme, especially for Halloween. Feel free to let me know in the comments section which specific outfit you’ll be rocking this year.
